The REIG, abbreviation for the Real Ear Insertion Gain
The aided gain is a very valuable value. However, we need to realize that when a client with an open ear canal is provided with an earmould or dome, this person will not experience the full Aided Gain result. A part of the amplification provided will be used to compensate the loss due to the ear piece, or dome. In order to measure the real improvement, it is necessary to know the difference between the output obtained by the REAR and the REUR. By deducting these two results, the REAL Ear Insertion Gain (REIG) is obtained. This will be the real improvement that the client (hearing impaired) will experience.
An example of a REIG measurement is shown on the right. You will see that three different input signals have been used.
