Real Ear Aided Response (REAR)

If you have fitted hearing aids, you can use a probe tube measurement, with the tip of the REM probe close to the eardrum, to measure how much sound is arriving at that location. This hearing aid output is measured in dB SPL. So we can see how much sound reaches the eardrum.

The software of the REM equipment will calculate a prescribed target based on the audiogram of your client.
With the REAR measurement you can determine whether you are offering sufficient output. If not, you will need to fine-tune the hearing aid to get a better result.
By choosing to also display the percentiles in the software of the REM equipment, you get a good impression of how much sound is offered above the hearing threshold and how much, if any, comes close to the UCL.

REM Stimulus

As a stimulus for the Aided Response, an output measurement, we always choose to use the ISTS (International Speech Test Signal). This is an unrecognizable speech signal, which is well balanced. This signal can be restarted over and over again and this means that changes to hearing aid settings can be properly checked for their true effectiveness.
